Phosphorus dendrimers as viewed by 31P NMR spectroscopy; synthesis and characterization

This review emphasizes the role of phosphorus for the elaboration of dendrimers and of various highly sophisticated dendritic structures, and the invaluable role played by ³¹P NMR for their characterization and to ascertain their purity. A few properties, highlighting the importance of phosphorus are reported at the end of this review.     

Mereologies as the grammars of chemical discourses

Mereology is the logic of part—whole concepts as they are used in many different contexts. The old chemical metaphysics of atoms and molecules seems to fit classical mereology very well. However, when functional attributes are added to part specifications and quantum mechanical considerations are also added, the rules of classical mereology are breached in chemical discourses. A set theoretical alternative mereology is also found wanting. Molecular orbital theory requires a metaphysics of affordances that also stands outside classical mereology.     

Studies on pyrrolidinones. On the application of copper-catalyzed arylation of methyl pyroglutamate to obtain a new benzo[de]quinoline scaffold

Optimized conditions for copper-catalyzed N-arylation of methyl pyroglutamate are described. These studies permitted the synthesis of methyl N-naphthylpyroglutamate, which was then cyclized to a ketone. The known dehydration of amidoketones by PPA was extended to this new scaffold to lead to a novel condensed benzo[de]quinoline with potential antioxidative activity.     

Monotone and maximal monotone affine subspaces

Affine monotone and maximal monotone subspaces are characterized.     

Design of metal oxide nanoparticles: Control of size,shape, crystalline structure and functionalization by aqueous chemistry

The aim of this paper is to show that a very simple but well controlled chemistry in an aqueous medium allows one to efficiently control the main characteristics of oxide nanoparticles. Examples concerning titania, alumina, iron and manganese oxides are discussed to illustrate various effects on the control of size, shape and structure of nanoparticles. Some examples of functionalization of these particles are also illustrated. Experimental data, procedures and detailed references can be found in the cited literature.     

Nash equilibrium point for one kind of stochastic nonzero-sum game problem and BSDEs

In this Note, we deal with one kind of stochastic nonzero-sum differential game problem for N players. Using the theory of backward stochastic differential equations and Malliavin calculus, we give the explicit form of a Nash equilibrium point. To cite this article: J.-P. Lepeltier et al., C. R. Acad. Adventitious formation of a new oxopentadienyl Mn(I) tricarbonyl complex: Structural study and bonding investigation of (η-CH2C(Fc)CHC(Fc)O)Mn(CO)3

A Mn(I) tricarbonyl complex of a 1,3-diferrocenyl-1-oxopentadienyl ligand was synthesised adventitiously by what seems to be an in-situ aldol-like condensation of two acetylferrocene units promoted by benzyl-Mn(CO)₅. X-ray structural analysis of this unexpected product confirms the η⁵ coordination of the 1,3-diferrocenyl-1-oxopentadienyl ligand to the Mn(CO)₃ moiety. The nature of the metal-ligand bonding relationship was studied by theoretical calculations; it outlines the charge unbalance (polarisation) at the oxopentadienyl moiety as well as the lack of ketone character of the latter Mn-bound ligand.
